Formal letters are official letters written to persons in their official capacity or to a company. They are formal in nature. Nothing in such letters should be personal or intimate.
The subjects include inquiry, remittance order, reference, request, etc. The important thing is to word the letter correctly, keep the letter to the point and maintain the formal tone.
