Holy Child Girls’ School; October 4th: Holy Child Girls’ School yesterday celebrated a cultural program on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd of October.

Unlike other years, the school decided to celebrate the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti with splendour. The cultural program was planned and the school auditorium was selected as the venue for the function.

According to the principal, nowadays it is very important to uplift the values and ideas of Gandhi among all the students as well as teachers. At the very beginning of the program renowned researcher of Gandhian philosophy, Dr. Sangeeta Vardhan delivered a 30-minute speech on the relevance of Gandhi in the present-day world.

In this world of greed and unhealthy competition Gandhian ideas of sustainable development are the only way out, said Dr Vardhan in her speech. After the mesmerizing speech of Dr Sangeeta Vardhan, the principal of the school inaugurated the cultural function that started with the national anthem of India.

Thereafter a beautiful short drama on Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha was staged exclusively by the students of class 9 and 10. After the audience witnessed solo performances by the students as well as teachers of the school.

Sodepur High School; October 4th: The Panihati municipal area witnessed a beautiful initiative taken by the Sodepur High School on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday.

Due to the national holiday on 2nd October, the school authority decided to celebrate the occasion on the next day, 3rd October. The headmaster of the school let us know that no special ceremony usually takes place on the occasion of Gandhi’s birthday every year. 

But this year an interesting proposal came up from among the students. The students proposed taking up an agenda of cleaning the streets around the school and spreading bleaching powder in order to eradicate dengue. They came up with this agenda as a symbolic initiative in regard to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as reported by a senior student of the school.

School authority added up a cultural program along with this agenda. On the morning of that very day students of class 9th, 10th 11th and 12th standard started their work of cleaning the school itself along with the adjacent streets and spread bleaching powder thereafter.

The school authority provided the students with all necessary safety gears. Then after returning back to the school premises the cultural program started with garlanding a statue of Gandhiji. The senior-most teacher of the school Mr. Golaknath Mukharji delivered a short speech explaining the moral values of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road, Kolkata; October 3rd: The city of joy, Kolkata witnessed a beautiful peace march on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. This beautiful initiative was taken by the Maulana Azad College of Kolkata.

According to one of the senior students of the college, in the recent days of increasing communal and social tension, the ideas of Gandhiji can show the way out and bring back harmony, peace and stability in the whole society. Therefore they decided to launch a peace march in order to spread the moral ideas of Gandhi and named this march as the Gandhi Peace March.

A well-decorated procession went out yesterday at about 10:30 a.m. from the college premises. At the very front of the procession, there were students holding banners with a photo of Gandhiji along with one of his peace messages.

In the middle of precision, there were students playing various musical instruments and singing songs. And in the end, the professor and staff of the college took part and walked along with their students.

The procession went out from Rafi Ahmed kidwai road and rounded the whole New Market area covering the S N Banerjee Road and returned to the college. The principal of Maulana Azad College has welcomed this initiative of promoting social harmony through students.

Health Camp for Distressed People on Gandhi Jayanti in Bhawanipur Education Society

Bhawanipur; October 3rd: The Bhawanipur education society decided to celebrate Gandhi Jayant this year by setting up a health camp for the distressed people of the city.

The chairman of the school authority has let us know that “the dream of Gandhi was to create a healthy and poverty less India. Though we have failed his dream, this initiative can be a symbolic one in the way of promoting healthy India”.

That’s why on the day of Gandhi Jayanti a medical camp was set up in the school and all poor people were invited for a free health check-up as well as medicine if required. A team of 14 doctors were created and an expected crowd gathered outside the camp.

The students of the school served as volunteers to manage the crowd and align them in a queue. From 9 a.m. onwards the medical camp started working and the doctors patiently examined all the people who came for the health checkup.

The medicine distributing company Apollo came forward to provide the people with necessary medicines free of cost if required. After the end of the camp at about 4:30 p.m., a statue of Mahatma Gandhi was garlanded by the renowned musician Ayan Ali Bangash as the chief guest. The principal delivered a short speech at the end talking about the India that Mahatma Gandhi dreamt of.
