My winter vacations this year were truly special, as I got to spend it with my father who is in the Merchant Navy and for us to spend a vacation was truly special, so when I was told about our vacation together I was extremely excited.
The vacation took us to the coastal waters of Kerala, where we were graciously invited to stay with my father’s colleague. A cozy home with a large front yard to play in and huge coconut trees surrounding the perimeter.
The most memorable event there was the Indira Gandhi boat race- a winter snake boat race, as the canoes glided across the lagoon I felt my heart race with excitement and my ears rang as cheers poured out from all around to celebrate these skilled racers.
The people of Kerala are extremely kind and highly literate, we were always made to feel comfortable and the cuisine there was truly exquisite, with all the sea and freshwater delicacies the foodie in me was truly satiated. The memories I have with my father will always be cherished and I hope to visit again soon.

Dear Diary,
My cousin invited me over to his hometown, to the pink city of Jaipur during my winter vacations, the city has been painted pink to commemorate the visit of Prince Albert- husband of Queen Victoria. Rajasthan has a beautiful climate in the winter, a perfect setting for our small excursions to the local bazaars selling artwork or to the beautiful gardens laid across the city.
The most memorable event I went to was the winter festival in Mount Abu, lit deepas were floating along the banks of Nakki lake with fireworks lighting up the night sky. Music, food and people cheering was a common sight all over.
Looking back I am glad that my cousin invited me over to this beautiful city where winter seemed to bring back life in this arid region, with tourists pouring in from all over the world I got to experience a harmonious mix of cultures, met new people and lived through a great winter vacation.

Dear Diary,
The city of joy, Kolkata has always been known for its Durga Puja, but a winter vacation to a town called Bandel situated just in the outskirts of Kolkata changed my view about Christmas celebrated here. The Basilica of Holy Rosary- Bandel Church is one of the oldest churches in India established by Portuguese settlers during the reign of Akbar.
The setting for Christmas was very different from the general hustle-bustle seen in bigger cities, there was a lack of loud music and partying but more of a homecoming feel, where families got together to share their stories of the past year and the hopes they have for the future ahead. Christmas eve there was filled with carolers visiting homes to sing and celebrate the birth of Christ.
My experience during this vacation on Christmas was about viewing this ancient Church decorated with lights and Christmas props, The Hymns sung along and the sermon by the priest was a very exciting and new experience for me and I enjoyed all of it. I was glad to visit Bandel during Christmas and hope to visit here soon.

Dear Diary,
Winter season this year brought in a surprise when my parents told me about their plan to visit the Sasan-Gir national park for a safari trip during my winter vacation. We left mid-December and reached camp, I was excited for the night safari during which we saw a variety of animals prowling around in their natural habitat, it was so dark with insect chirpings all around, yet occasional cries of wild animals always startled me.
Gir is the only national park to house Asiatic lions and the morning safari the next morning got us face to face with a pride of these majestic beasts. The excitement in the group was felt when everyone gasped as the pride of lions passed by us while photographers in the group were busy clicking pictures.
Winter vacation for me had never been so exciting and the very thought of visiting these jungles with my friends in the future fills me with joy. I pray we are able to do that soon as I really miss the adventurous time I had during this winter safari.
