Subject: Felling of trees due to construction of a new flyover.

I am writing to express my concern over the decision of widespread felling of trees by the government for constructing a new flyover.

The government pleads that the project would benefit the public extensively. The officials say that it would reduce travel time and also reduce traffic congestion on the roads. However, mere benefits to the citizens, are not sufficient justification for chopping down trees. We must stand up for our environment. Trees are important for maintaining the temperature and humidity balance of the city. During summers the trees help to keep the temperatures low in winters. Trees also help to prevent erosion of soil and stop desertification.

As a community, its the hightime for us to speak up for our love and respect to the trees. They deserve to thrive in this world as much as we do. We should demand to govornment for compensation for environmental damages and never forfeit our right to live in a healthy planet.

Subject: The increased rate of deforestation caused by thoughtless felling of trees

Sir,

Admittedly, trees are our life-givers. However, the increased rate of deforestation because of the thoughtless cutting of trees is causing havoc to the eco-balance and weakening our economy.

Urbanization and swift developments are gradually decreasing the forest density and making it difficult for us to come in contact with nature. Trees provide the world with oxygen supplies and shade in summers when the environment needs it most. It helps during winters as well, when we need to preserve every bit of heat. They also provide us fruits and leaves & branches for cooking. Some of the medicinal plants are extensively used for treating critical diseases. Forests serve as feeding grounds for animals, nesting zones for birds, and homes to a variety of other animals. The trees also have commercial values. They are a source of income through fruits.

Let’s give a chance to our trees to survive in the world as we do. It’s time for us to think about it seriously and save them from being destroyed. I request everyone to stop the needless felling of trees. Therefore, we would be grateful if you kindly grant us a space on your editorial page so that we can draw the attention of higher authorities regarding this issue.

Subject: Merciless felling down of trees of the Western Ghats

Sir,

We, as citizens of this city, have a treasure of old and beautiful trees that majestically line the main road. However, these days, most of them are being axed mercilessly by urban developmental teams.

The Western Ghats is home to many spectacular trees. Some of these trees are more than hundreds of years old. These trees provide us with clean, breathable air. The felling of these giant trees would be the ultimate devastation to the environment, especially for the people who live in this region. Approximately 300 trees have already been felled in the last two years. This is deeply disturbing and painful for not only nature but also all of us here.

Therefore, we would be grateful if you kindly grant us a little space on your editorial page so that we can attract the attention of higher authorities regarding this issue.

Subject: Set up new laws to prevent unethical felling of trees.

Madam,

I am writing to express my deep concern over the problem of felling trees in our neighbourhood.

The growing metropolis of Gurgaon is severely lacking in greenery, as the local government has become lenient in granting permission for the construction of new buildings, which is causing citizens undue concern. Trees are an important and the most indivisible part of our ecosystem and cannot be used as a low-cost alternative for real estate development. In order to tackle this problem of environmental sustainability, the necessary measures need to be taken immediately by the administration. The government should restrict the permission given for constructing new buildings and make sure that it does not result in felling any trees.

I also demand that the government for setting up new dedicated laws to protect its citizens from such unethical practices. I strongly urge you to allow my concern a little space in your esteemed daily.

Yours Sincerely,
Smitha Parikh
