Subject: Sports and Students: A beautiful relationship

Sir,

I am a student and a regular follower of your esteemed daily writing this letter today to express my realisation about the significance of sports in students’ lives.

I have recently participated in a sports event organised by my school. This event is nothing new as it takes place almost every year. But this year was something really different for me. We organised everything together, we participated and enjoyed multiple sports overwhelmingly. Through this event, a subtle realisation has hit my mind. We students take sports almost for granted. We hardly recognise the contribution of sports in our life. In my opinion, sports are something that builds the character of any human being. Besides, it builds unity and an environment of mutual co-operation in our society. Moreover, all kinds of sports play a significant role in nourishing a person’s mental and physical health.

So, through this letter, I want to appeal to all the schools/colleges to take sports more seriously besides academics. As we all know, ‘health is wealth’: sports can change this proverb into reality.

Yours Sincerely,
Rajesh Dutta

Subject: Governments’ encouragement to sports

Sir,

Recently, many state governments, as well as the centre, has announced various policies to encourage the players from various sports. This letter to your esteemed daily is intended to review this step and evaluate its efficiency.

The performance of our country has been consistently poor in any international sports field except cricket. In Olympics, we are hardly able to secure any significant medals. So, to bring change in this scenario various state as well as the central government has announced certain policies and incentives for players based on their performance in national and international filed. These incentives include a guarantee of government jobs, a lumpsum amount of monetary prize, as well as national or regional honourary titles.

To encourage the players from various sports sectors, these policies and incentives by the government are always welcome. But along with these benefits, the government need to take sports more seriously from the school level. Besides, the sports training institutes are needed to be incentivised to train the players. Moreover, the government must also focus on ensuring propers nutritious foods for all the players of the country.

Yours Sincerely,
Rumi Bannerjee

Subject: Rise of modern life and fall of outdoor games

Sir,

Nowadays, the tendency of playing outdoor games has been significantly reduced among children. I am writing this letter to your esteemed daily to express my concern regarding this issue and evaluate the reasons behind it.

Around one or two decades back, we used to play many kinds of outdoor games for our leisure entertainment. I remember, we used to wait for the afternoon to go to the field. It not only brings entertainment to us but also strengthened our bonding with friends, kept our body healthy and mind fresh. But nowadays, children hardly go to play outdoor games. Rather, now they prefer to play video games on mobiles, computers or surf the internet and even social media. The rise of advanced digital technology led to the rise of this phenomenon. Moreover, due to the rise in population, urban areas are being out of open fields. With this lack of interest in outdoor sports, many hereditary games are being extinct nowadays.

Parents do care for their children and get worried about them but they should always encourage their children to go for outdoor games. This lack of interest in outdoor games is making this generation homesick and impacting their physical as well as mental health too. Besides the parents, the schools should also take the initiative to indulge the children in various types of outdoor sports.

Yours Sincerely,
Aditya Bansal

Subject: Sports Quota: Compromise or Necessity?

Sir,

Recently some debates have been broken out regarding the relevance of sports’ quota in various government sector jobs. I am writing this letter to your esteemed daily to express my stand in this debate.

Visa Guide:  Write a Letter to the Editor Highlighting the Misuse of Social Media and Smartphones

The government provides sports’ quotas for players from different sports sectors based on their performance. Recently, a few groups of intellectuals are debating this policy of the government. According to them, sports are important indeed but governments jobs are all about administration and management. Jobs using sports quota is nothing but a compromise with the service. Moreover, they said that government jobs are not a gift to be rewarded but need to be achieved with specific qualities. That’s why they demand a complete abrogation of sports’ quota from the government jobs.

In my stand in this debate, I completely support all their arguments regarding the sports’ quota. Government services should never be compromised. But to encourage the players and sports sector of the country these kinds of incentives are also quite necessary. So I would like to suggest some modifications to the policy rather than abrogating it. The qualifications of the players coming from sports’ quota can be taken into account in this matter. Besides, they must also appear in the entrance exam for the job and here the government can provide some incentives in the cut off marks for them.

Yours Sincerely,
Barun Goswami
