Sub: Incalculable rise in road accidents.

Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I wish to express my grave concern over the alarmingly rise in incidents of road rage in the metropolitan leading to countless accidents at a regular interval. The roads have become a death trap and no one from motorists to pedestrians feels safe.

With the developed economic condition the ownership of cars and bikes has been on the surge and road accidents are a frequent feature in newspapers. There are several reasons behind the increasing number of road accidents, but reckless and rash driving seems critical. People always being in a rush pay the least attention to the speed barriers or any warnings. Apart from these reasons poor condition of the roads and the road lights, increasing encroachment and lack of traffic education are major reasons behind the road accidents.

If immediate measures are not taken roads will become the least safe mode of transportation. Mass awareness regarding traffic rules and regulations must be created. Roads need to be widened with proper lights. I request the concerned authorities to take these and many more steps to check the menace of road accidents urgently.

Sub: Frequent road accidents on Lake Road.

Sir/Madam,

I am writing to draw your attention through the columns of your esteemed daily about the increasing road accidents in the recent past. Last month we have recorded three accidents in the same spot.

Since the road leading to the highway is less congested it makes the road safer but empty streets are misused by increased speed and distracted driving. Adding to this, improper vigilance has encouraged the person on the steering to overlook speed warnings and traffic signals. Speed is the main determinant of serious injuries and fatalities. There have been several rollover incidents and single-car collisions. Pedestrians and bicyclists are also vulnerable to the threat.

The traffic police should be pulled up to perform their duty efficiently. The number of speed breakers must be increased and the authority must limit the maximum speed while driving through this particular area. Urgent measures should be taken to handle such nuisances and to check any impulsive action on the road.

Thanking You

Sub: Accidents and Injuries caused by poor road conditions

Sir,

I am writing to draw your attention through the columns of your esteemed daily about the increasing road accidents in the recent past due to the poor conditions of the roads of our locality.

The roads of our localities are least taken care of by the authorities. The residents are facing several issues now and then but most disturbing is the number of accidents on the road due to its poor condition. Several potholes and poor lights on the road have created enormous hazards to the drivers. During the office hour rush a few residents of our locality also badly hurt themselves in those potholes and cracks. Recently a child while playing injured his legs and arms in one such pothole. Aged pedestrians are scared to access the road.

Before the situation gets worsened the road must be repaired and adequate light must be ensured. We are hopeful the concerned authorities will look into the matter with utmost urgency.

Thanking You

Ms Sneha Seth

Sub: Steep rise in the number of highway accidents

Sir,

Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities and the masses to the alarmingly risen number of road accidents, especially on the highways.

There are several reasons for accidents on highways but higher vehicle speed tops the list. The roads being empty and less inhabited become favourable for the drivers to drive at the top speed risking their lives and also of others. Due to a lack of proper vigilance on highways, the drivers do not abide by the traffic rules and regulations. Trucks are dominant on highways and their drivers are often drunk while driving. It is high time the administration looks into the matter with urgency. Adding to these, low light on the highways contributes to fatalities on highways.

Road accident is the most unwanted thing to happen to a road user but it happens most of the time. Road Awareness Campaign should be done more often. Heavy imposition of tax and also forfeit of license if one is found to disobey the traffic rules and regulations. Proper lighting and more speed breakers may reduce the number of accidents on highways. The administration should look into the matter with urgency to tackle the unusual number of road accidents.

Thanking You

Mrs Krishna Basu
