Dear students, recently, CBSE announced that they will be gradually revising the question pattern in the upcoming examinations for almost all subjects, including English. They declared that from now on, at least 50% of the total questions will be multiple-choice based(MCQs). Based on this decision of the board, we have decided to come up with sessions discussing model MCQs as per the guidelines.

Previously we have conducted several sessions discussing MCQs related to stories and poems from the syllabus of class 10. This session is going to be focused on MCQs exclusively based on Class 10 English First Flight Poem 2, ‘Fire and Ice’. So, let’s get started.

Short Summary of Fire And Ice

In the poem ‘Fire and Ice’, the poet talks about the increasing greed, jealousy, hatred, cruelty and insensitivity in the hearts of people. He says that if these self-destructing emotions are left unchecked, the world will surely end. Some people say that the world will end in fire, i.e., the cause of the destruction will be the burning desires of people, their greed, lust, avarice and cruelty. Others think that the world will end in ice, or, the cause of the destruction will be people’s coldness towards one another, their insensitivity, indifference and hatred.

The poet says that he thinks the world will be destroyed because of the uncontrolled fire of people’s greed. But if the world has to be destroyed twice, he says that he has seen enough coldness and hatred among people to know that ‘ice’ is also equally destructive.
