Anchoring Script for Get Together Party [With PDF]
A get-together party is a friendly gathering where friends, family and/or acquaintances get together and enjoy their time with each other. A get-together party can take many forms. When family members meet, there’s good food, games for children, activities for men and women and lots of gossiping and chatting.
When school friends organise a get-together, they may rent a huge space and get a DJ and entertainers as well as good food and drinks. Depending on the purpose of a get-together party, the anchoring script may vary. For this sample script, we will be assuming that it is a get-together party for school friends.

Welcome Speech
An anchor should always start a function with a fitting quote, a nice poem or some famous saying so that he or she is able to immediately capture the attention of the audience. For get-togethers, quotes on the topic of friendship, company, school/college days, memories and happiness can be a good start.
Here’s a demo script you can use according to the need for your program.
“Good morning, everyone! What a wonderful morning it is and to have you all here with us today makes it even more special. I am [name], your host for today’s get together party and I warmly welcome you all to enjoy the event.
Colombian novelist Gabriel García Márquez once said – “We grow up with dreams in our eyes and songs on our lips and we discover that life is not what we thought it would be. And then, we discover nostalgia.” And how true is that! Today, looking at all these beautiful familiar faces, I am reminded of our school days. Our friendships, our silly fights, our crushes, those memories of falling in love for the first time as well as our first heartbreaks.
It has been 10 years, a whole decade since we graduated from school. Can you believe it? To me, it feels like yesterday. Now, we are all adults, most of us have our own families and a thousand responsibilities. But, with all of you here today, it feels like I am back in the common room of our old school, happily chatting away and enjoying myself with my good old friends.
I sincerely hope that you all can let go of your worries and enjoy this get-together party to the fullest! Let’s have a great time! Cheers!”
If the event is at noon or in the evening, you can replace words like ‘good morning’, ‘morning’ and ‘today’ with ‘good afternoon’, ‘good evening’, ‘day’, ‘evening’, ‘tonight’, etc.
Not necessarily, you have to use the same quotes that I have used in the demo script. Here is a list of some interesting quotes that you can use while framing your own script.
- “I would rather walk with a friend in the dark, than alone in the light.” – Helen Keller
- “Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” – Marcel Proust
- “Each friend represents a world in us, a world not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.” – Anais Nin
- “The greatest gift of life is friendship, and I have received it.” – Hubert H. Humphrey
- “In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.” – Khalil Gibran
Choosing a quote that goes well with the nature of the event and following it up with a good welcome speech can help an anchor immediately capture the attention of the audience and kick start the event.
Jokes/Interaction
“Sometimes me think, ‘What is friend?’ Then me say, ‘Friend is someone to share the last cookie with.'” -Cookie Monster
“Do you all remember the huge fight between [name 1] and [name 2] over a cookie? By the time you both stopped, one had ink all over her face and the other had paint all over her uniform. The whole class got reprimanded by our Principal sir/ma’am because we sat there cheering and enjoying the fight instead of getting you both to stop.
Whenever I think about it, I can’t stop laughing. The shock on the faces of your parents was something I would never forget. Surprisingly, you both became best friends after that and as I can see, your friendship has only gotten stronger. I am so happy for the both of you!”
The anchor may talk about funny incidents from the past, bring up happy memories, interact with the audience and ask them funny questions. This will keep the audience engaged and entertained.
Stand Up Comedy
These days, it is pretty common for organisers to invite stand up comics to perform at get-together parties. To welcome a stand up comic on the stage, an anchor can say something like this:
“[Humanity] has unquestionably one really effective weapon – laughter. Power, money, persuasion, supplication, persecution – these can lift at a colossal humbug – push it a little – weaken it a little, century by century, but only laughter can blow it to rags and atoms at a blast. Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.” – Mark Twain
“Laughter is truly the best medicine and it is a medicine that we all need. So, to help you all relax yourselves and laugh out loud, we have invited the very talented, the very funny, [name of the comedian]. Please put your hands together and give him/her a huge round of applause. Welcome, sir/ma’am/ [name of the comedian]. The stage is all yours now. Thank you.”
After the performance:
“Oh my God! That was amazing! I couldn’t stop laughing! You are truly brilliant! Thank you for making us all laugh. We thoroughly enjoyed your performance. Thank you so much. Everyone, please give him/her a huge round of applause!”
Performance
If the organisers have invited singers/dancers to perform at the party, the anchor can welcome and introduce the artists in the following way:
“Words make you think. Music makes you feel. A song makes you feel a thought.” – Yip Harburg
“Music and songs make everything better! And so, to brighten up everyone’s mood and make this moment even more memorable, we have invited one of the most talented bands, [name of the music band]. They had an extremely busy week and we are so grateful to them for accepting our request despite the time crunch. Let’s welcome them on the stage with a huge round of applause! Thank you.”
After the performance:
“Is this a dream? The performance was so magical! You guys are truly the most talented! Thank you so much for such an amazing performance. And thank you for coming. Everyone, please give them a huge round of applause. Thank you.”
Asking Everyone To Enjoy Together & Have a Great Time
“Of all possessions, a friend is the most precious.” – Herodotus
“My precious friends, I hope you all are having a great time! Those were all the performances that we had prepared for you. Now, I would like to request everyone to move to the banquet hall on the right. We have prepared delicious snacks and a variety of foods. There are also games, music and other forms of entertainment for you. Please enjoy your time and have fun catching up with each other. Let’s enjoy this party to the fullest! Cheers!”
