Welcome speech (For School/ Educational Institutions)

Mahatma Gandhi often said ‘’ The future depends on what we do in the present”. Good morning/ afternoon/ evening to our respected Principal sir/ma’am (his/her name), our honourable chief guest (his / her name), our teachers, non-teaching staff, and all our students present here. There’s no need to mention why today is important or for what purpose have we all gathered here today.

To say in brief, it is the birthday of the Father of the Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, a small, humble boy from Porbandar, Gujrat, whose tremendous determination and courage, his ethical felicity have all merged into him to form the greatest leader of all times, whose guidance, even after so many years of his death, is still so topical. By simply conducting a program we cannot actually pay our respects to him. All we can do is follow his principles of equality, fraternity, no riots, and non-violence. Searching for the truth and God must be the major seeking for us to be an ideal representation of Gandhi’s India.

To honour this grandsire, our institution has decided to inaugurate a mural of Gandhiji. I will request our chief guest, the president of our governing body of (institution’s name), (his/her name), and our principal sir/ma’am (his/her name) to come upon the stage and inaugurate this mural of the Mahatma.

Welcome speech (For clubs/ NGO/Other Non-educational Systems)

A very good morning/ afternoon/ evening to our society members/ members of our NGO, our respectable chief secretary (his/ her name), and everyone present here today. It is mesmerizing to see such a great crowd today who have assembled on this auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. However, what he opined about such big gatherings is ‘’ It is easy to stand in crowds but it takes courage to stand alone”, It is so deep in meaning and describes the Mahatma himself.

When he started his nationalist movements, when he was outcasted by his own nation for visiting South Africa and crossing the Kala Pani, then he was all alone. Maybe Tagore was composing his famous song ‘’Jodi tor dak sune keu na ase’’ while thinking of the Mahatma himself.

Gandhi has walked the greater path of his life alone where his strong decisions about himself and his country have depended mostly on himself. What pushed him through is his determination and that attracted several followers towards him. If we can learn anything from this person, then it is this strong determination to continue a journey towards truth, even if none is there.

So without wasting any more time let us now begin our program. I will request our chief guest (his/her name) to inaugurate it.

Post-Inauguration Speech (For Educational Institutions)

It is a wonderful asset for our institution to have this mural of the Mahatma where everyone will be daily reminded of his ideals and how they are to be implemented. It will only create a better personal space and a better world tomorrow. I will now request our chief guest (his/her name) to share some words regarding the Gandhian revolution in India.

One thing that I must share with you is that the grandfather of  (chief guest’s name) was a part of the Indian National Congress and had extensively worked with Gandhiji during several of his campaigns. In fact, he was severely wounded several times while he tried to protest against colonial oppression. So (chief guest’s name) has received a direct connection to that time of the nation through his grandfather. We would definitely like to hear those wonderful stories. Sir/ ma’am, please come over to the stage.

After the Chief Guest’s Speech (For Educational Institutions)

Thank you so much, sir/ma’am. When you were talking about the direct experiences of your grandfather, it felt so real as if it has happened now, as if we are still a colonized nation who is fighting against the colonizers for their freedom, rights, duties, and happiness.

Now I would like to call upon the stage our music faculty to sing a nationalist song on this event of Gandhi Jayanti to commemorate his ideals and principles. The stage is all yours.

After the Chief Guest’s Speech (For Non-educational Systems)

Thank you so much, sir/ma’am. When you were talking about the direct experiences of your grandfather, it felt so real as if it has happened now, as if we are still a colonized nation who is fighting against the colonizers for their freedom, rights, duties, and happiness.

Now I have a request for you sir/ ma’am. We are all aware of how wonderfully you sing. Your vocals are renowned in our area. We cannot leave this opportunity to listen to one song from you. It will be a great prize on today’s occasion.

After the Song (For Educational Institutions)

Thank you so much sir/ ma’am for this wonderful song. Whenever we hear any patriotic song something stirs immediately in our mind that passionately brings out our nationalist emotions. It is true for every one of us. No one cannot stay still once they hear songs like this, that too from such a strong vocal. Thank you so much (his/her name)

Now let us proceed with our program. Our student (his/ her name) from (class/standard) has prepared a wonderful recitation about the patriotic vigor of our country. Let us hear it directly from him/her.

After the song (For Non-educational Systems)

It is true for every one of us. No one cannot stay still once they hear songs like this, that too from such a strong vocal. Thank you so much (his/her name)

Now let us proceed with our program. Our little society member/NGO member (his/her name) has prepared a wonderful recitation about the patriotic vigor of our country. What is most important for him/her is that he/she has prepared this poem just within a week. It is quite a challenge for him/her. So let us hear it directly from him/her.

After the Recitation Performance (For Educational Institutions)

That was lovely. I was mesmerized by his/her deep vocal, the rise and fall of intonation, and the theatrical format in which he/she recited the poem. Well, let me tell you that (his/her name) is a daily practitioner in one of the greatest recital schools (school’s name). So it is not surprising that he/she will perform it to the best. Thank you so much for this.

Now we have in our performance list the students of (class/standard) who have prepared a self-composed dance drama to portray the Jalianwalabagh Massacre. I would request the troop to take their respective places.

After the Recitation Performance (For Non-educational Institutions)

That was lovely. I was mesmerized by his/her deep vocal, the rise and fall of intonation, and the theatrical format in which he/she recited the poem. Well, let me tell you that (his/her name) is a daily practitioner in one of the greatest recital schools (school’s name). So it is not surprising that he/she will perform it to the best. Thank you so much for this.

And now it’s time for a dance performance. The girls of our society/ the girls of our NGO have choreographed a wonderful dance drama to show the life of Gandhiji from his childhood to his creation of Congress and his political journey.

After the Dance Drama Performance

That was so delightful to see our young dancers outgrow themselves every year. I forgot that it was self-composed. I felt as if it is a master creation of some great playwright for moments. For everything that you all have done, I salute you. Excellent.

And now we have arrived at the final performance of today. It is a staging of the excerpts from the famous play Nildarpan written by Dinabandhu Mitra, that exposes the tremendous torture done by the British over the indigo planters in India. In fact, Gandhiji himself was associated with the Champaran Movement which deals with the same topic. I will declare the names of the students included in this play and leave the stage for necessary preparations.

Concluding speech

So here we come to the end of Gandhi Jayanti. It was delightful to see such huge participants of you all, the chief guest, and all those who took part in the program. Throughout it was brewing with the message of the Mahatma. So on this note, I will bid you goodbye. Good night/ have a good day.
