Subject: Bus and Taxi associations’ strike will disrupt public life

Sir,

Recently the bus and taxi associations of our city have decided to go on a strike for an indefinite period to get their demand for fare hikes fulfilled. Through this letter in the column of your esteemed daily, I want to express my concern regarding this issue.

The fuel price has recently taken a sudden rise in the last few months. Because of it, bus and taxi associations demanded an official fare hike from the government to sustain their business. But the government didn’t agree to their demand. The large vote bank might be an issue for the government in this case. However, yesterday the bus and taxi associations announced a strike demanding either a decrease in fuel prices or an official fare hike according to the fuel price.

This decision is going to severely affect the public life of the city. Our regular transport system highly depends on private buses and taxis as there are not enough government buses available for daily transport. So, considering the need of both the bus association and the general public, the government should immediately step into this matter and find some solution to this issue.

Subject: Increased transport expenses need to address

Sir,

This letter to your esteemed daily is intended to express my concern over the issue of excessive increase in daily transport expenses due to abnormal hikes in petrol and diesel prices.

Recently the petrol and diesel prices have excessively increased around the entire country. In some cities, the prices have gone above even 105/- INR for one litre of petrol. As an obvious result, the expenses for daily transport have been excessively increased. Buses, taxis, Ecabs have gone much beyond the affordability of the general public. Though the government has not officially increased the fare of buses and taxis, it has become an unofficial rule to pay extra to avail of these services. People who solely depend on public transport like buses, their lives have come under a serious crisis due to this issue.

So, through this letter in the column of your newspaper, I want to appeal to the government to take immediate steps to resolve this issue. Otherwise, these excessive prices people are paying for public transport can result in a serious anarchical outrage.

Yours Sincerely,
Rumi Bannerjee

Subject: Hike in fuel prices affecting the prices of daily commodities

Sir,

I am writing this letter to your esteemed daily in order to bring some light of concern on the issue of essential commodities’ price rise and get the situation improved as soon as possible.

Recently the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG have been abnormally increased in our country. Due to pandemics and lockdown, as all kinds of tax collection are stopped, the government has increased the taxes on petrol and diesel. Now when the prices are increasing in the international market, we are witnessing this abnormal hike.

Prices of all other essential commodities depend on the prices of fuel. That’s why as the fuel prices increased, the transportation cost increased with it too and with the increased transportation cost, the prices for the daily commodities have also increased. This has been a serious problem for families of lower-income scale. Moreover, the price hike of LPG gases has directly hit the kitchen of the middle classes.

So, it’s my earnest request for the government to immediately control the fuel prices to give some sign of relief to the citizens of the country.

Yours Sincerely,
Aditya Bansal

Subject: GST regime will help control fuel prices

Sir,

Through the esteemed column of your daily newspaper, I want to express my view on the recent decision by the government to bring petrol, diesel and LPG under the GST regime.

Abnormal hikes in fuel prices have become a regular phenomenon in our country. Due to this, prices of all other commodities used to increase heavily. Keeping this problem in mind, the GST council finally decided to bring the fuels under the GST regime. After the introduction of GST, bringing fuel under it was a controversial issue.

As a result, people had to pay 52% tax over the main prices of the fuels. The centre and state governments used to collect government duty, VAT and SEZ. But after bringing fuel under the GST regime, the taxation process has become more simplified and taxes became as low as 32%. This is the new tax slab the GST council has created for fuel.

This step was the long pending demand of the welfare economist as well as many political opposition parties. No doubt, this initiative will help to reduce the prices of fuel and eventually all the prices of the daily commodities are expected to get lower.

Yours Sincerely,
Barun Goswami
