Subject: Excessive technological dependency is harmful

Sir,

The COVID-19 has hit the entire world very hard. All kinds of physical academic activities have stopped due to the lockdowns imposed because of the fear of the spread of infection. During such a hard time students like us have no option but to pursue our classes online. But this increasing dependency on technology is supposedly not sustainable for the long term.

The worldwide pandemic has pushed us to opt for digital technology to continue our works in daily life. I am continuing my school’s and coachings’ classes online as physical attendance is not possible in this ongoing situation. But undoubtedly, these online classes are not a replacement for physical classes. Yes, online classes indeed have numerous advantages but it has several technological disadvantages as well. Most commonly, these digital technologies bring huge distractions during the study. Moreover, continuous staring at the digital screen affects the eyes, and eventually our brain heavily.

So, in my opinion, technologies have truly made our life easier, but we should never rely on technologies so much that it starts affecting the natural way of living.

Yours Sincerely,
Rajesh Dutta

Subject: Work from home vs. Life in the home

Sir,

With time, the newly emerged work from home culture is becoming more and more prominent in the corporate sector. My letter to your esteemed daily intends to express my grave concern regarding this excessive human dependency on technologies.

The covid-19 pandemic has forced the government to impose strict nationwide lockdowns. But economic activities cannot halt for an indefinite period. In this context, the work from home culture has become a common phenomenon for all almost every corporate sector. So nowadays, employees of various corporate firms are regularly working from their homes, so am I. Recently, many corporate firms have even offered their employees to permanently opt for work from home. But from my experience, I must say that it should never be a permanent work option.

Work from culture, using modern technologies truly have numerous advantages, but it has several grave disadvantages as well. In this context, we must remember, the corporate work culture is totally absent in the home. Due to this work from culture, we are being more surrounded by various technologies, that are not at all sustainable for the long term. As a result, it’s increasing domestic problems, weakening family bonds, and above all, severely affecting human health.

So, for this ongoing hard time, work from home culture, using modern technologies might be an option, but as permanent work culture, it can give birth to various modern issues. In this context, we must recognise the significance of the quote that- “Technologies are for humans; Humans aren’t for technology”.

Yours Sincerely,
Rumi Bannerjee

Subject: Human vs. Humanoid: Sustainable?

Sir,

In this 21st century, the world of robotics and computing has evolved to a large extent. We heavily depend on and even sometimes surrounded by these kinds of advanced technologies in multiple sectors nowadays. Through this letter in your esteemed daily, I want to express my concern over this excessive dependence and evaluate its sustainability.

As the last century passes on, we have seen enormous development in this computing mechanism. Now technologies like artificial intelligence & quantum computing are replacing the traditional computer. With this, the concept of robots and eventually humanoids, have become a reality. Nowadays, this technology has developed so much that people are thinking to depend on robots in various sectors like service, health, research, lifestyle, etc. We are already surrounded by AI through our mobile and computer software. This excessive dependency has a big price to pay. Social bonding is now being obsolete as technologies have created an illusion of self-sufficiency among people. Besides, the natural ability of thinking is decreasing continuously and gradually we are becoming the servants of Artificial intelligence. Eventually, people are being alone and depressed in their life.

Technologies like AI and robotics have truly made our life much easier in various sectors. But we must always remember, we invented technologies with our intellect to use them at our convenience, not for being used according to technological rules.

Yours Sincerely,
Aditya Bansal

Subject: Technologies and mental disorders: a need of the hour

Sir,

I am a practising psychologist, recently dealt with a few cases of socio-emotional disorders caused by excessive dependency on technology. Today, I’m writing this letter to your esteemed daily, to express my concern regarding our over-dependence on technologies.

Nowadays, we depend on advanced technologies in various sectors of our day to day life. Be it computing, communication, entertainment, work: we are surrounded by modern gadgets. During our busy life schedule, we hardly get quality time for ourselves and our family. Even if we manage to get some time, we spend that on technological entertainment and social media. The real society seems to being obsolete and virtuality is taking over from every aspect. This is why bonding in families and societies is weakening gradually. Domestic peace is being heavily interrupted and violence is increasing. Isn’t it sounding like a state of anarchy and chaos? As an obvious result, people are being alone and eventually depressed. Many severe physical and psychological problems are clouding over our life due to this. Psychological issues like self-obsession, identity crisis, personality disorder, severe depression are being quite common.

So, in my opinion, this is high time for people to be more careful about their dependency on technologies. Otherwise, the current emotional chaos and anarchical state will eventually get transformed into severe social anarchy. Psychiatric consultation will not be an option at that time.

Yours Sincerely,
Barun Goswami
