Write a Letter to Municipal Commissioner for Public Library
Libraries contribute a lot to the spread of knowledge and add value to social well-being. Public libraries are those places where everyone can go and read books from their collection.
These kinds of libraries are often built by local administrative bodies like municipalities and panchayats. Keeping the utter significance of libraries in mind, many educational institutions include this topic as official letters in their English comprehension tests.
In this session, you’ll be learning how to write a letter to the municipal commissioner for the public library. So, let’s get started.

Subject: Need a public library near school
Sir,
I am a student of class 9 from Azad Nagar Boys’ High school. Today, I am writing this letter to you to bring an appeal to your kind attention that we are highly in need of a public library near our school.
You might be wondering, despite having a school library, why we’re applying for a dedicated public library in the locality. In this context, I want to let you know that there are almost 1200 students studying in our school. Compared to that, the collection of books in our library is quite inadequate. Moreover, most of its books are quite old and in fragile condition. That’s why there is severe risk in handling them. Besides, there is not complete freedom of access to the books in our school library.
All these problems can be addressed through a public library in the area. So, through this letter, I want to request you to initiate building a public library near our school so that all students can have access to the required books. The school library will never get replaced, but a public library can serve the sole purpose of education.
Yours Sincerely,
Suman Banerjee

Subject: Need a public library for social well being
Sir,
I am a resident of 2/52 Duttapukur, Ward number 21, Bongaon Municipality. This letter to you is intended to express the need of the people of our locality for a public library.
Libraries are one of the most significant parts of any advanced and civilized society. Those are the core places from where people seek knowledge from the ocean of books. In this way, libraries add great value to civil life and help to head toward a bright future. But being a downtown area, Duttapukur hardly has any library where everyone can have access to a large collection of books. Here, libraries are only limited to schools. Moreover, many schools in Duttapukur do not have an adequate amount of books in their libraries.
That’s why, through this letter, I want to request you on behalf of all the people of our locality to initiate building a public library. A library in our area will not only help the students in their studies, but it can also be a hub of knowledge for all the people of Duttapukur.
Yours Sincerely,
Rahul Chandra Dhar

Subject: Immediate reopening of public libraries are important
Sir,
I am a resident of 55C Nabin Maira Road, Uttarpara, ward no. 13, Hooghly Chinsurah Municipality. I am writing this letter to you today to bring an issue under your kind notice that we are facing several problems as the public library is still closed.
Due to the worldwide pandemic, all non-essential institutions have been closed since last year. But with time, educational activities have been started via online mode and we have started attending our school from home. But that doesn’t solve all the problems regarding education. Books are the fundamental elements required for school education. But as we got promoted to a new class and all book markets are closed, we are in extreme need to borrow books from libraries.
So, through this letter, I want to request you to consider reopening the public library with proper safety measures as the current situation demands. It will not only help us in our study but also help the senior citizens of our locality to find some relief from the monotonous house life.
Yours Sincerely,
Md Safiur Rahman

Subject: Need immediate renovation of the local public library
Sir,
I live in South station road, Sodepur, ward no. 33, of Panihati Municipality. This letter to you tends to express my concern over the poor condition of our local public library and seek renovating measures for it.
As you know that the local public library of our area is a century-old, the current condition of the building is quite miserable due to lack of regular maintenance. Besides, the collection has not been renewed for many years. Moreover, the condition of the existing collection is too fragile to be borrowed. Apart from that, there is a serious shortage in the required number of staff in the library. As a result, the reputation of this library is going down and it’s on the verge of collapsing.
This library is a living heritage and it’s our responsibility to keep this heritage alive. So, through this letter, I want to request to first take initiatives to renovate the building and fulfill the need of required staff. Then we all can contribute something to renew the collection and for conserving the existing books.
Yours Sincerely,
Nikhilesh Ghosh
