Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a freedom fighter and statesman. He was born on 31st October 1875 in Gujarat. He was a lawyer who later became India’s first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. Sardar Patel joined the country’s freedom struggle and actively took part in the non-cooperation as well as quit India movements.

He believed in national unity and persuaded 562 princely states in the country to join together to form the Republic of India. Because of his contributions in the fight for independence as well as in the political integration of the country, he was nicknamed the ‘iron man of India’.
