He is famous for his contributions to the education system of India. He became the Vice President of India in 1952. He was appointed the second President of India in 1962. Radhakrishnan, like Jawaharlal Nehru, loved children dearly. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1967.

As a teacher, Radhakrishnan realized the importance of education in India. As a thinker, he decided to reform the education system. For him, education was not just having information and reading lots of books. But it was also having wisdom. Education should help one in knowing the rights and wrongs of life. It should allow one to stay with the other happily. Radhakrishnan believed that education must make a person positive. He should love and care for everyone and become mentally strong. Education must develop the personality of the student. It must give him a strong character. He should respect all and be self-sufficient.

Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan wrote many books on his education system and philosophy. His most important books include Indian Philosophy, The Bhagavadgita, The Philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore, and others. He was a loved teacher and cared for children, like Jawaharlal Nehru. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan received the Bharat Ratna in 1967 because of his philosophy and education system. This great son of the soil of India left us in 1975.
