Bose was phenomenal in designing coherers or radio wave detectors using semiconductors. The concept of radio was first conducted by him, although it is debatable if its real proposer was MG Macaroni. Prof. Bose also contributed to biology by inventing life in plants like human beings. Through electrical instruments, he realised the stimulus in plants due to which they responded to several circumstances. That plants can react to changing environments was for the first time introduced by Prof. Bose.

One of the most prominent names in the field of science and research in India and also in Bengal is Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose. As the mentor of proficient future scientists like Satyendranath Bose and Meghnath Saha, Jagadish ChandraBose was himself inspired by Swami Vivekananda, Sister Nivedita, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy, Rabindranath Tagore, and other eminent personalities. Bose was born in 1858 at Mymensingh at Faridpur in Bangladesh.

He was educated in Hare school, St. Xavier’s University in Calcutta, after which he decided to study abroad. In Britain, he received numerous companions who helped him in his researches. From Britain, he did his BSC in physics, chemistry, and biology. After completing his studies he returned to India to persuade his studies in the lands of Bengal.

Bose was the pioneer in several instances in the field of physics and biology. He joined the Presidency College as a professor of physics in 1885. Returning from England, from 1894 to 1900 he studied the optical properties of radio waves. He continuously worked on refractions, diffractions, polarisation, and also designed coherers or radio wave detectors. Bose also influenced the fields of biology alongside physics. He made phenomenal research where he discovered how plants have life impulses just like humans and animals. They equally respond to any stimulus they are exposed to. He studied the biophysics of the inner systems of the plants as they coordinate with the environmental changes. Bose also concluded that plants have a system like humans where they have a nervous system as well as the intelligence that allows them to act likewise in photosynthesis and other chemical activities.

Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose left behind a huge legacy for the future aspirants of science. He Honoured with a knighthood in 1917 and was selected as the Fellow of Royal Society. He was among those first Indian scholars who was selected as a fellow of the esteemed royal society. Bose was highly supported by his wife Sarala Bose, an extraordinarily educated lady of her time. He also established the Basu Vigyan Mandir that dedicated itself to the study of biophysics. Prof. Bose is hence considered the most revered teacher of our culture.
